No space left in /User/{USERNAME} filesystem

    Hello all,

I have an issue, just yesterday I started having an issue on my XServe. The Parallels build is 3188, unless this is known to be fixed in a future Parallels version, I do not want to upgrade. It all works now, but with this new exception.

Basically, periodically everything freezes up and a window will pop up saying that there is 0 MB of space left in the /Users/{USERNAME} file directory and that at least 512 MB is required for Parallels to run. This isn't an issue, I have more than 200 GB of free space available, AND the particular Username has privilages to ALL of it.

    Any ideas? Fixes?

Right now I just wait for a call when things are broken, and restart the Parallels and all is well... Until the next time it happens. It is quite unacceptable due to all the people who are stopped dead in their tracks on our DB program, not to mention the potential corruption from the sudden communication drop.

    Do you have FileVault enabled?

    Eru Ithildur,

Currently I can't tell you any ideas on this particular problem with build 3188, but I know that we changed VM hdd access program code in Parallels Desktop 3.0, in build 4560 in particular, to make it better compatible with native Mac OS filesystem access routines.
I will check with our QA Team on the next week and ask if they are aware about fixing this particular problem.
But considering that you've started having this issue only recently - have you tried some basic troubleshooting like repairing Mac disk permissions and restarting the system? Please mind that Parallels Desktop isn't a Server-class application and some issues working on the server configuration are possible, especially during the prolonged uptime. You probably know that Parallels Server is only under development currently.

    Spectre,
Thank you for the response. Nice to see the support alive and in action!

I have tried restarting the system, I have not tried reparing disk permissions and will undertake that this evening when the usage is down to a minimum.

I am quite happy with my current version of Parallels, and although the upgrade would not cost me anything due to my upgrade protection, I am very hesitant to try anything new until I get a machine that I can crash to my heart's content. As of now all my machines are in use with operations I cannot touch.

If your Q&A team does not have any suggestions, and they do not believe that the latest build of Version 2 does not affect the methodology of interaction with the filesystem, I will shelve the issue until I can use a computer as a development machine to test the stability of Version 3 with the set-ups we use. If you have the code rewritten there, and you believe it likely to be fixed there, I think we just have an issue of me being too slow to upgrade.

I, for one, am VERY interested in the new Parallels server. To be perfectly honest, I am going to try out Fusion to see what the competition is like, but if things stabalize (in terms of USB support) with V. 3, and the Parallels Server is a gem, I will definetly be getting it and staying with you guys as my reccommendation.

I should have a server to develop on in the near future (likely to be an XServe), if you need beta testers (for the record I'll be getting my ACSA soon), drop me a PM.

I have had a few days without a crash after installing Parallels 3 on my server. I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed and hope it fixes the issue. It looks like it will.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread.

AGH! I spoke too soon. There seems to be a problem here... With Parallels 3 it just returned the error message. I'll try redoing my permissions again and such.

Update, so I repaired the permissions and verified my disk. All seemed ok, the permissions check found just about ten items, none looked like they pertained to Parallels. They are fixed nevertheless. Well, when I woke up this morning it had that dreaded "The filesystem /Users/MYUSERNAME has ran out of space. Parallels requires at least 512MB of space to operate. Please clear some space and press continue."

    update?

I have this same problem. Is there any progress on this issue? Has anyone else managed to solve this problem?

I don't know whether this is relevant, but in my case I can simply click on OK - without doing anything else - and Parallels resumes without further complaint. Until the next message of this type, which might be a few hours or a day later.

No update yet, I had some back and forth with Parallels support a week ago... Then... it... went... dead!

I am now going to be building a fusion disk image for my server to see if that works.

I can click 'ok' but that is hardly acceptable for a server. Perhaps if they could at least get the silly thing to run for at least 24 hours without an issue I could have it re-boot daily at midnight. I don't want to, in the 9 months I've had it, prior to the problem occuring I had TWO months without a SECOND of downtime.

I've contacted some other local techs, they had some ideas with memory allocation and we played around together for a few minutes, no dice. Also, I tried moving it to an external... No dice.

Just got an e-mail from the person working on my issue, he was out of office last week and just got back to me. Nothing yet, but he said he is looking into things with the developers. We shall see what happens. I'm not keen on switching from a platform I know pretty well (Parallels), and if they can fix the issue I'll be happy as a clam.

To my understanding currently there is some investigation ongoing with developers on your issue to confirm one possible bug that may have caused the problem you are experiencing. Our support should update you in the next 1-2 days as soon as any results will be available.

I have continued to have some back and forth with Parallels. We are hoping to have the problem fixed tomorrow. Have you contacted them yet?

After working with Parallels support, I have now had a full day of use without it's 'break' that it likes to take. Hopefully everything remains that way. I'll report back Monday with a notice as to whether or not it is continuing to work.

    Same problem here.

I am using build 5608 Desktop for Mac and having this same problem. I am hoping there is a fix however I am planning to test out the Server product to handle this. If there is a fix it would be much appreciated to provide this.

Do you have at least 5 gb free on Mac disk where VM is located?
