P12 faster than P10 - not on my Mac

    Hi,
I have a MBP 2010 with a Core 2 Duo, 16GB Ram, 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. OS is El Capitan 10.11.6. Running Parallels 10.4.0.
I have a W10 Pro with only a German Financial Package, Office 2013 and Norton Antivirus. I also have a W8.1 Pro but only with Norton Antivirus. No other apps. All data remain in a Mac directory.
Up to now I was running P10 and always thought the start of W10 or W8.1 could be faster. Well, when P11 was announces it was supposed to start the Win guest OS faster. I had tried a trial of P11 but found it is not faster on my Mac.
I was hoping that P12 is faster, but again, after installing it it actually starts both W10 and W8.1 slower than before. Also the shut-down takes a bit longer than with P10.
I did some start/shut down tests with P10, which started the W10 VM between 1:06 and 1:10 minutes, shut-down between 12 and 16 seconds. With P12 the start took between 1:22 and 1:26 minutes, shut-down around 18 seconds.
Same for the W8.1 VM. With P10 start between 33 and 36 seconds, shut-down between 14 and 16 seconds, with P12 start between 44 and 48 seconds, shutdown just about 28 seconds.
So my question is, is this a config issue, or a VM setting that i need to set differently? Both VMs are set to use 8GM memory and 1GB video memory, and 2 processors. I had tried it with 1 processor but did not see any difference. Also, i had tried video memory with 512MB, but also no difference.
Does anybody else have the same/similar problem and did you manage to fix it? All I really want is that my VM is starting faster. Currently I would not see any benefit of upgrading to P12.
Thanks for any commend and feedback
    Gerd

Interestingly I found with XP that Parallels 11 was slower than 10. I develop windows programs and my build time on Parallels 10 was 5 minutes. On Parallels 11 was 12 minutes. I had paid for a pro upgrade, but I've never used 11 due to the loss in performance. I cancelled my 11 subscription renewal for pro and have stuck with 10. I have tried every version of 11 that has been released during the year and the performance has never increased. Was going to try 12 to see if it was an improvement but from your post it sounds like that's probably not going to be the case. Totally disappointing. I will be trying VMWARE to see if they have improved their XP performance as I find it comparable with what I was finding with 11.

I am a bit surprised that I did not get more feedback from others having the same issue. I have a hard time believing, that my issue is unique.

I had placed a support call and had tech. support checking out my system. Besides trying a few settings, nothing else was changed, but the result remained the same. The rep extracted some files from my system that he wanted to forward to development. And his recommendation was to wait for the next update coming out the next few weeks.

But that can't be it. P11 was supposed to be faster (it was not), and P12 even faster still (it is not), and the only answer is to wait on the next upgrade? This IS disappointing to say the least.

With the amount of memory i have and the fast SSD i should have seen a noticeable improvement in load and shut-down times.

So, does anybody have any suggestions that I could try?

    Thanks in advance.
    Gerd

I completely agree with you. I can't believe that no one has reported or seen the same issue. For me there's clearly a minimum of 50% reduction in performance from 10 to 11. I won't try 12 until I get some confirmation that the issue has been addressed. For me it's a deal breaker as I'm a developer and it reduces my productivity during compile time and testing.

    Hi chrispratt247,

did you get in touch with tech. support about your issue? It might help to create a support ticket and have support look at your P11 setup. I also makes them aware that I am obviously not the only one with decreased performance on either P11 or P12.

    Hi,
Yes I did. They came back and pointed me at a knowledge base post which didn't help in the slightest. I might get round to doing it again, but to be honest my P10 setup works just fine for the minute and I don't see any need to move to P12. Hopefully I can free up some time to get in touch with them and try and get further on the issue.
