I'm running Parallels build 1848.2 on a Macbook Pro. I had Windows XP running on this version before I had to uninstall/reinstall and delete the VM. Now, no matter how many times I reinstall Parallels and try to install XP I get the same error when I get to the "Select virtual machine configuration file" screen: Target directory <directory it's creating here> cannot be created! Please check if there is enough free disk space available on destination and you have proper access permissions. I've tried the instructions here: http://kb.parallels.com/entry/21/235/ with no success.
so install it on a firewire disk far better to clone your VM and use a back up copy than endlessly reinstall windows quicker too Hugh W
Thanks! I hadn't thought of that. And also, it wasn't that I was installing windows over and over again, it was that I was trying to install Windows but couldn't get as far as even saving the VM. I think I accidentally misrepresented the problem because I didn't really understand what the problem was. Now, I have the VM saved it to a removable HD and everything's running smoothly.
and clone the VM once a week please and save all data in shared folders NOT in My Documents in Windows Hugh W
