When I direct my Windows 7 VM to shut down, either through the Windows Start Menu or through the Parallels menu bar, it goes through the process of shutting down, but does not make it all the way. It appears to be suspended, because you can still see the Shutting Down image on the background and in the desktop control center, you can see how when my Windows 10 VM is shutdown, it shows the Windows icon. The Windows 7 is showing a application window, as though it is just suspended. When you restart though, it goes through the reboot process. Because Parallels does not think it is completely shutdown, I cannot get to some of the Configuration settings for the VM. Any ideas on how to make it shut down completely? I have tried the following: reinstalling Parallels Tools, Force Quit, Reset, Stop VM. Thanks, T.J.
Hi @ThomasH10, Follow the steps given below and let us know how it works, 1. Start your Windows. 2. Reinstall Parallels tools, Actions->Reinstall Parallels tools. 3. Restart the Windows. 4. Click Actions->Shutdown and check what happens. Feel free to get back to us any time.
I had actually already done the above a number of times. Not sure what finally fixed it, but somewhere in some combination (in no particular order) of creating a duplicate copy of the VM file, reinstalling Parallels Tools, transferring from one disk to another and back, and opening a different VM file, it finally shut down. Not clear what was the thing that worked.
