    Hello,

I have used the latest version of Parallels and it works great. I can surf websites through my virtual machine (Windows Vista).

The problem I have is that my VM will not allow me to access ANY of the microsoft websites?? All other sites work fine. Anyone else with this problem?

    thanks,
    David

No, it shows me nothing. Just "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".. It's so strange. It's like Vista has an internal block against everything that has to do with microsoft. I cannot even sign in on msn messenger. All other websites/ftp programs and everything works without ANY problems...

I am so puzzled... any ideas?

i suppose that issue is around IE (maybe some security settings, black list). Try to install alternative web browser (mozilla, firefox) and attempt to go on some microsoft site through it.

Did you try booting from a boot-disc with some good anti-virus software? The last poster in that thread had a point. Perhaps he corrupted the cache to M$ so you couldn't get updates.

Did you try making a fresh installation of Windows? I think that that will tell us the most.

I think it has something to do with that I am using a PPP adapter for my broadband connection on the mac-side, and that parallels doesn't cope with that information getting fully passed on to the VM

Have you checked extensively for viruses or malware yet?

Have you tried making a new VM with a fresh install to see if the issue exists specifically on the current VM or with a Parallels config issue?

I installed Parallels this morning on my Mac registering with a trial license. The installation is fresh, I can't access microsoft.com.

Bizzare. How do you connect to the internet?

Wireless link from an iMac. I believe it uses PPoP or something like that to connect to the wireless ADSL router. I can check from home if it can help. I am running WindowsXP on Parallels. My system is Tiger.

If we don't get support from Parallels I am going to try VMWare and let you know how it works: http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/.

Could it be Microsoft blocking the same WindowsXP license installed on two different machines (Wintel box and iMac)?

I doubt it, but M$ might be doing it. Regardless, you shouldn't have it installed on two boxes as it is illegal (unless you own a volume license, in which case whatever those terms are apply). Sorry.

So I installed VMware, created a WindowsXP virtual machine, registered Windows with the same license I used for Parallels, pointed IE6 to www.microsoft.com and... Yep! A beautiful MSN homepage showed up in my browser with the last news from the NFL Power Rankings.

It seems to be a Parallels problem.
