I am running a Mac Pro 2.66GHZ, 3GB memory and OS X 10.4.8. I am using parallels 4128 (3.0). The problem is OS X will attempt to log itself out when Parallels is running. It usually won't succeed because Parallels catches it with a pop up box asking user to shutdown virtual machine first. If the VM is not running OS X will log off and restart by itself. If Parallels is inactive OS X behaves normally. It exhibited the same behavior under the OS X 10.4.10 upgrade as well, in fact it did it much more often under 10.4.10. 10.4.10 had too many compatability issues with other software I was using so I restored the system back to 10.4.8. I also tried parallels 4560 (3.0) but the logoff problem still persisted. I reinstalled parallels 4128 because 4560 would not play a PC game I like and 4128 played it just fine. Other than the annoying ocassional automated log off Parallels 4128 performs okay. previously Parallels 3188 (2.5) did not exhibit the log off problem. I contacted Apple support and they had me try all sorts of fixes, but nothing helped at all. If anyone has a idea as to what may be causing this problem please help.
Hello *Bump* ... I must be the only one ever to experience the auto logoff problem. Should I make a "Mac Genius" appointment or just trade it in on a new 8 core Mac pro? ;-)
This is, most likely, an OS X issue and not an issue with Parallels. Go to your System Preferences Pane and click Security. Look at the bottom options and make sure that "Log out after XX" minutes of inactivity" is unchecked -- you may need to click the lock at the bottom left to make changes. Andy M.
Takes a user to fix it... Thanks Andy: I was pulling out my hair for nothing. You would think that Apple support could have clued me in on that one. Strange thing is OS X would not log out out automatically unless a program was running. I had left it on overnight before with no programs started so it could run its maintainence stuff and it didn't log out. Anyway many thanks. I hope I can return the favor someday. Ray
You're welcome. I only know because I hit the same problem myself. Hope that fixes your problem permanently. Andy M.
