I know that Parallels can have more than one VM but I am wondering what will happen if I upgrade to W10 using the W7 VM. Will W7 be overwritten or will a second VM be created? I have a couple of ancient programs that still run on W7 but may not on W10 so I do not want to lose W7 access.

    Thanks

    It will be overwritten.

Unless you clone it first, creating two VMs and th n upgrade one of them.
However, a program that works on win7 is most likely work on win 10, the underlying tech hasn't changed that much, not as much as between win xp and vista or 98 and xp.

    Thanks very much.
I think I clone it by making a copy of the .vm file and saving it on the Mac desktop. Is that correct? I would then create a new Parallels vm and import the .vm file?

Select the VM from the Control Center.
File > Clone (not 'Linked Clone')

That's even easier than I thought. Thanks again.
