how to unlock Windows from wake up

ok, I was in Windows, and went to bed so i just closed the screen.
When I opened up my screen this morning, it was in some sort screensave/wake up mode...

Nothing was working and was frozen...
I played with all the buttons and finally i was able to bring it to a Window (instead of full screen)
and then it would unlock..

Is there a special way to unlock something like that?
