I have purchased an upgrade from Parallels 10 to 11. I am wondering if there are any benefits to doing a fresh install or if simply upgrading to v11 is the same? On a related note, the biggest issue I'm having with Parallels right now is that the .pvm file on my Mac side is 61GB... which is 15% of my Mac partition (400GB Mac, 100GB Windows)... too much. Can this be reduced? Will a fresh install of v11 possibly reduce the footprint of Parallels on the Mac-side? Thank you for any advice or experience anyone can share.
Hello Kyle, you may download the latest build of Parallels Desktop 11, install and upgrade from Parallels Desktop 10. There is no difference in doing a fresh install of version 11. Thanks! PC
Thanks Paul. Any idea how I can reclaim some, or all, of the seemingly redundant 61GB of used Mac-side HD space? Is there an option to not use Mac-side HD space somewhere? What is this large file for? When I try "Free Up Disk Space", I don't have any space to free up.
Hello Kyle, 1.Go to your virtual machine's Configuration > General You will find the reclaimable hard disk space under the Reclaim... button. 2.Click Reclaim then click Yes to confirm your action and then check the hard disk space.
Thank you Chris. This allows me to reclaim 137MB... nowhere near the 61GB of the .pvm file... any more suggestions? What does this .pvm file do/store?
Kyle, please start up your virtual machine and check the size of the used up space on the Windows side as only the unused memory on the Windows can only be reclaimed. Also, follow this article and merge all the snapshots and check how it goes.
