Well, my initial view, after wasting about 5 hours this afternoon with no end in sight, is to warn everyone to avoid any upgrade.
My only use for Parallels in the first place has been in continuing to use a Windows version of Quicken 2013. However, after uploading Parallels 11, there is no longer any image of my quicken data files to be accessed and the Quicken 2013 version no longer loads. I feel like I am back in the days of trying to get software to run under MS-DOS or Win3.1.

Well, after trying that "solution", the Windows boot behaving somewhat differently, but I still can't "run" quicken or any other Windows applications, and I still can't "see", any of the files saved under the Windows virtual disk. Part of the problem may be that I am no longer able to login to Windows with the appropriate user name and password. I tried to set the password as explained on the following page.
    https://forum.parallels.com/threads/windows-7-password-reset.260255/

However, after executing the sequence of instructions, I received this message "The command is available only in Parallels Desktop for Mac Pro or Business Edition". I am running these on a Mac Pro, so that message isn't very helpful.

Well, I updated my Parallels Desktop for Mac to Desktop for Mac Pro, essentially more than doubling my investment. This allowed resetting my windows password. This has allowed me to run Windows in Safe Mode and in Safe Mode with Networking. In the latter, I was able to run Quicken 2013 and confirm that all my data files on the VM partition are still intact. Still no luck booting into Windows in regular mode yet, but I've got a couple more things to try.... On a per hour basis, the cost of this investment is ridiculous....
