Whenever I use Parallels on my Macbook Pro (latest versions of all software), the battery life goes down the toilet. See attached screenshot. Two questions please: 1) What, if anything, are the developers doing about this issue and 2) What, if anything, can I do on my MacBook by way of configuration changes to improve things? I already have the general setting set up to maximise battery life. Thanks Paul
Hello Paul_Slater, Please optimize the power options for Virtual Machine: Go to VM Configure (http://kb.parallels.com/117287) > Options > Optimization > Power. Please set this option to "Longer battery life", restart your Mac and let us know how it works.
As stated above when I submitted the post, I have already set this setting to longer battery life - it has been that way since I first identified the issue. See attached screenshot. Suffice to say this seems to make no difference whatsoever.
Avg. energy impact of Parallels: 8 Avg. energy impact of OS X apps: >8 So, apps running on the host, OSX, are consuming more energy than everything that is running in the Guest OS. Don't forget You are running 2 operating systems in Parallel, and according to your screenshot the Guest is using less energy than Host (obviously not counting with the Guest energy usage). So, yes, whatever is running in the Guest OS consumes energy, because it consumes processing power, the only way is to reduce this energy consumption is by having the Guest OS and apps running in it use less CPU, you do that by running less apps and services in the Guest.
