I am a complete newbie when it comes to both Parallels and Linux so sorry in advance if my questions are absurdly stupid. I'm running Parallels Desktop 5 with Debian installed in a VM on my Macbook Pro. Anyway, I have two problems which I suspect are related, although, they could very well be two different things. Problem one, My screen size is off. Even in full screen the desktop on Debian stretches beyond the edges of my display. It automatically scrolls left and right when I move my mouse, but to move the page down (and later back up) I need to release my mouse. I've tried adjusting the resolution, but it won't let me. (more details upon request). My second problem requires more explanation. I can't seem to get Parallels Tools installed. After hours of surfing the web and trying a few things I did manage to get an installer to run, but then it tells me some components are missing, asks if I want them downloaded automatically, then it gives me the following error: An error occurred when downloading required components for Parallels Tools installation. - make - kernel sources Install these components and try again. I looked online and I saw that people have solved this problem using the following commands uname -r apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) make gcc to which my system responds the following: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done linux-headers-2.6.26-2-686 is already the newest version. make is already the newest version. gcc is already the newest version. The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: libstdc++6-4.3-dev g++-4.3 libtimedate-perl dpkg-dev Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. But when I try running the installer again, I get the same error message above. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
check other thread I think it would be best if I kept this on a single thread. I didn't know how long it took to get a thread up and didn't realize this had posted until after I tried again. I'm not sure how it can be done, but this thread should probably be closed.
Problem solved ALERT - NEWBIE MISTAKE!!! Yeah, all I had to do was change the file permissions and it worked. My bad.
hi 1- you must copy parallels tools in new directory 2-chmod -R 777 "your parallels tools directory " 3- cd "your parallels tools directory " 4- sh install br
