Hi ! I created a linked clone of a windows-7 machine to test a Piece of Software I didn't want to run on my production-System. As I did not need all my desktop-Icons/files/shortcuts on the linked-clone, I removed them from the Desktop. A very rude surprise was that as a consequence these files/Icons/shortcuts were also removed from the source (production)- system !? How can that happen ? Thought changes on the linked-clone should not effect the source ?! Florian
Hi Florian, You are correct, All the files available on the parent virtual machine at the moment the Snapshot is created continue to be available to the Linked Clone. All the ongoing changes to the virtual disk of the parent virtual machine do not affect the Linked Clone, and the changes to the virtual disk of the Linked Clone do not affect the parent virtual machine. However, Please check if you've enabled desktop sharing from Mac ( Shared Folders Tool enables you to share Mac folders with the virtual machine and vice versa. With this tool, you can access your Mac folders from the virtual machine and virtual machine folders from Mac OS X. You can also choose custom folders to share. ) Shared Profile Tool enables you to share your Mac desktop, pictures, documents, downloads, music and videos with your virtual machine, which allows you to access them right from Windows. If Shared Profile is enabled, you can see the same Icons on your Mac, Windows Virtual Machine and it's clone, please refer http://kb.parallels.com/122567 to know more about Parallels Desktop sharing tools.
