I have tried to use the advice regarding repairing an installation, but the settings needed for repairing are not accessible.
The problem is not really the XP installation, but the Paralles update.
    What do I do?
Can I revert to the prior version of Paralles that worked beautifully??
Most of my work is done with a program that only runs on Windows XP.

    Hi TomF1,
Could you please tell us the version and build of your Parallels Desktop and also provide us with a little more information on the issue that you are facing with the update.

The build is the very latest build (of 10) as I get advised of updates automatically. Today I received such a notice and confident that it was - as it always has been before - a good thing to update, I accepted and the update started.
When the update was finished, I attempted to start the virtual Windows XP. The standard well-know XP welcome background picture appears and that was it. No start menu, no desktop, no right clicking. Just the picture.
I closed down the virtual machine and tried again. Same result. I rebooted the iMac. Same result.
I have also installed Windows 7 on Parallels. No problems after the update.
I then tried to follow your trouble shooting instructions on your website on repairing XP with an original XP CD (which I possess). Never got to do that as I could never get to choose from where to boot (prayed out). On the other hand it doesn't really seem to be an XP issue needing repair as it worked absolutely fine before the Parallels update.
Unfortunately in my work I rely heavily on a program, which for now only runs on XP, Vista or Windows 7.
And as most of my data are presently inaccessible, means I cannot work!

    Best regards,
    Tom

Thanks. But it was handled by restarting (Actions/Restart).
    Best Regards,
    Tom
