I've a older piece of equipment that needs to be told what comm port it's using when connected to my Mac's USB port. I've been able to do this in the past with previous versions of Parallels, but in 10 I can't seem to be able to create a comm port. I followed the directions on adding a serial port using the hardware tab, but the only option that shows up is "Printer" - no "Serial" option at all. Also, after trying to add a serial port my cursor freezes completely whenever the Parallels program is running and won't function until I force quit Parallels. (I use a track pad). I'm running 10.10.4 and Parallels 10.
Hi RobinN1, Please disconnect your USB from your Mac and re-connect it. You will receive a pop up with an option to connect it to your Mac or to your Virtual Machine. Please select your Virtual Machine in that option. Then open virtual machine's configuration menu -> go to Hardware tab -> click on '+' -> add Serial Port. Please refer to this knowledge based article http://kb.parallels.com/6318 and let us know if it helps.
