I've upgraded to ver10 and for the first time have now plugged in an exterior display. When booting Win7 however, P10 only displays the Desktop Control Centre on it. The main Win7 desktop refuses to display on the additional screen. I've searched on the forums and have tried several suggestions all to no avail. Clicking the options cogwheel on the DCC displays the Parallels options but only on my Macbook Retina pro 15".

If I start a win application it starts on the Windows desktop on the Mac and I can move the app to the external display but that still leaves the Win desktop on the Macbook.
    Anybody any ideas?
    Many thanks

    Hi Artysin,
Please navigate to Apple icon > System preferences > Displays > Disable mirroring options and check if the issue still persisting,
    If the issue still persisting:
    1. Start virtual machine, go to Start > in the search box type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter (return)
    2. Expand Display adapters and make sure that the is no exclamation mark and the adapter is called Parallels Display Adapter.
    3. If these requirements are not met:
    4. right-click the adapter > Uninstall. If the pop-up appears, check Delete the driver software for this device and click OK.
    5. Restart virtual machine and reinstall Parallels Tools (in Parallels Desktop top menu bar go to Virtual Machine > Reinstall Parallels Tools).
    6. If these requirements are met:
    7. In Parallels Desktop menu bar go to View and check Use All Displays in Full Screen option.
    8. Switch the virtual machine into Full screen view mode.
    9. Go to Start > in the search box type Control Panel and hit Enter (return).
    10. Go to Hardware and Sound > Display > Adjust Resolution (on the left pane).
    11. Click the additional monitors one-by-one, and in the drop-down Multiple displays menu select Extend these displays for each of the monitors.
    12. Restart the virtual machine and check if the issue still persisting.

Firstly, thanks for your help. I followed the above and the details were (for future reference)
    1) there was no exclamation mark in the Parallels display adapter.
    2) Carried out all of the other points as suggested
Result of this was that the Windows desktop appeared on the external monitor but when selecting Mac desktop 2 for an Excel s/sheet the external monitor moved from the Windows desktop to a blank Mac desktop.

De-selecting the "Use all displays Full Screen" option in Parallels fixes this so that now the Windows desktop appears on the external display and I can use any Mac application on Mac desktop 1. Just for note though, but selecting any other Mac desktop other than Mac Desktop 1 results in the Windows external display showing a blank Mac desktop background but that's not too much of a problem.
    Thanks again
    ArtySin
