I want to upgrade to Yosemite: I am currently running Parallels 6 on my imac which has OS X10.7.5.

Do I upgrade to Yosemite and then load Parallels 10 or load Parallels 10 before upgrading to Yosemite?

Either way, will I need to reload Windows 7 and all the Windows programs again? Or do these remain on my iMac.

    Hello RogerM1,
You can upgrade your Mac OS X to Yosemite and then upgrade Parallels to Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac, as you have Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac you will have to purchase a full copy of Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac please refer http://kb.parallels.com/122643
Before you upgrade your Mac OS X you can take a backup of your Virtual machine.
You can copy .pvm file ( refer http://kb.parallels.com/117333 ) to the external Hard Drive from your Mac.
The default folder for Parallels Desktop virtual machines is either Documents/Parallels folder inside your user folder, or /Users/Shared/Parallels

The PVM file seems to be 89 GB which is rather large - Can this be correct?
