Please help.... I'm upgrading to Windows 8.1 to XP. I read through all the instillation instructions and bought the physical Windows 8.1 dvd. I'm in the Wizard and am getting the following error message: "There is no operating system installed in this virtual machine. Please insert an operating system installation CD into the optical drive of your Mac and restart the virtual machine." I obviously have the instillation CD in the drive and I tried the workaround 1 and 2 listed here: http://kb.parallels.com/114589 , BUT I'm still not having any luck. Any ideas of what I can do next???
Hello tomdoz, Make sure that you have the CD/DVD 1 option enabled. Go to Virtual Machine configuration (http://kb.parallels.com/117287) > Choose Configure > Select Hardware > CD/DVD 1> Connect to Default CD/DVD > Check/enable the Connected box. Please follow the steps as suggested at: http://kb.parallels.com/114985 for Windows 8.1 upgrade step by step instructions. You can also follow the steps suggested in this Microsoft article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/upgrade-from-windows-vista-xp-tutorial Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks for replying Mervin, but that doesn't work. This was the first work around that I tried (which I mentioned above). I'm completely stuck right now. I need windows to run my ordering system for work and I'm locked out. I need to figure this out by Monday. I'm a bit frustrated because support code is expired, so i can't call or chat with anyone who might be able to help. I don't know what to do at this point. What do you recommend?
