My MacbookPro runs with 16GB ram. In Parallels desktop 9 I can only allocate 8GB of that ram to my windows simulation. While working in windows (which I do most of the time) I only run Parallels and Firefox. Everything else is done in windows. So the question is, how do I allocate more than 8GB ram to my windows given that the slider doesn't go any further than 8GB? Also, with 16GB, how much ram can I safely allocate to windows without suffering performance issue due to capping the host OS? Would my OS x suffice with only 4GB or does it require more to run smoothly?
Hi, Maximum RAM allocation for Virtual Machine is half of the actual RAM memory. Please refer to http://kb.parallels.com/113649 for more information. To run Windows OS with good performance, 4GB is sufficient. As you have assigned 8GB, the performance might drop at certain place as the Mac runs out of RAM memory. So please assign about 4GB RAM memory to the Virtual Machine and proceed.
