I created a Windows XP (SP3) VM under Parallels 8 in order to run an old 3D accelerated game from the 90s (Klingon Honor Guard). It ran perfectly under Parallels 8, but following an upgrade to Parallels 10 I have found that the game is now running way too fast, without any changes to the configuration of the VM or within Windows. It is similar to when old DOS games are run under DOSBox with maximum cycles. The game runs so fast as to be unplayable.

I am not keen on downgrading to Parallels 8 just to play this one game. Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

My Mac is a 2013 iMac Core i7 with an NVIDIA graphics card. I have assigned 1 processor core and 512MB of RAM to the Windows XP VM.

Try turning on vertical sync in the virtual machine settings under hardware => video

Thanks for the suggestion. I already had the vertical sync option selected.

I managed to resolve the issue by running the game in Windows 95 compatibility mode and increasing the resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768.

I am not sure why these settings were not required when running the same VM in Parallels 8, but in any case it is now running properly under Parallels 10.
