I'm still running OS X 10.6.8 at the moment, but a while ago already I prepared a 10.6.8 VM and a 10.9 VM, the former for future use under 10.9 (and higher), the latter as a springboard to prepare the transition. I've done this using 2 or 3 trial licenses :)rolleyes:) thinking I'd grab a license off the Apple educational store when I was about to get serious with this. Of course Apple now only offer PD 10, which no longer runs on Snow Leopard.

I found a nicely priced offer for Parallels Desktop 9 "Switch To Mac" on Amazon, however, and would like confirmation on a few things before ordering that:
    - this is basically Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac with a few additional utilities thrown in, right?
    - as such, it can be updated to the latest 9.0 version, right?
    - will I quality for a free update to v10 if I buy this version?
    - if so, is this a time-limited offer?
    - if/when I upgrade to v10.0 can I still use the v9 licence (not at the same time of course)? Suppose that I will have the v10 version on an external disk with Mavericks (Yosemite) installed or and the v9.0 version on the internal disk running Snow Leopard (or the reverse, at some point).

Thanks in advance for any answers,
    René.

    Hi René,
With the release of Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac, Parallels stopped selling Parallels Desktop 9. However, this version might still be offered by some authorized software resellers .

    - Please open http://kb.parallels.com/117014 to know what's new in Parallels Desktop 9.
    - Yes, you can update to Parallels Desktop latest build.
    - If you purchase Parallels Desktop 9, your copy will not be eligible for Parallels Desktop 9,
    - Free upgrade is a limited offer, The Parallels Tech Guarantee has ended as of October 15, 2014 for eligible purchases. please check: http://www.parallels.com/techguarantee2014/
    - To install Parallels Desktop 10 you need to purchase another license key for Parallels Desktop 10, we can not use version 9 to activate version 10.

I know it's current practice, but given the nature of what you sell it's regrettable ... Just for information: it's the very fact that version 9 still runs on Snow Leopard that I didn't go with VMWare.
(This also *almost* begs the question if you also no longer care about pirated copies of version 9?)

    That doesn't make sense...

Right. There's no way I'm going to shell out twice in such short succession, esp. not since I only missed the window because I really had other more pressing (family) matters on my mind.
I take it that what counts is whether a version 9 license was *activated* between august 1st and october 15th of this year, not when it was actually bought?
