I am having trouble updating Windows 7. I am not that familiar with Windows but there are updated to be done on Shutdown / Restart. That little shield shows on the Shutdown menu. Not surprisingly, when I do Shut Down / Restart, Windows tells me "Do not turn of machine, updating 1 of 12" It rarely gets past 1 however, before Parallels 10 quits leaving these updates incomplete. I have tried running Windows Update manually, but this fails. Poking through online documentation, it appears that this could be due to those unfinished shutdown upgrades. However, I have opened every panel and preference in both Windows and Parallels 10 and I cannot find a setting to allow those updates to complete before turning off the virtual machine. Nor can I find a way to run those particular updates while the virtual machine is running. I am using Parallels 10 on Mavericks OSX 10.9.5 I searched but was unable to find a thread dealing with a similar issue, but I am hoping someone out there knows how to get around this quirky behaviour of Parallels 10 and Windows 7. Thanks W "
Weird. In your VM configuration settings under Startup & Shutdown, what are your settings set to, especially for "On VM Shutdown"? I use Keep window open and have never seen this problem. Steve
My settings were not set to that. They were set to Quit. Your advice made sense, so I tried changing the settings "On VM Shutdown" to Keep Window Open. It seemed to stay open for a few seconds more but it still did not make it past 1 of 15
BUT... when I booted up Windows the little shield was gone and when I tried Windows Update manually, instead of the generally cranky state it's been in all day it was all green and happy and all up to date!! So evidently all 15 updates went through faster than the screen could update. Thanks, it would appear that the problem is solved
Nope, I thought that might be too good to be true. Back to the same. It does seem to linger a bit longer and the turned-off machine window remains open. But the updates are not installed. I don't know why it showed green and up to date that one time. Grrr. This is so annoying. I don't want to have to actually understand Windows, I am just using it for Quickbooks. I am getting Error code 80070539 when I try to do Windows update. Sometimes when I first open Windows Update it shows green and up-to-date. However, if I check for updates it brings back those same 15 updates. If I try to install with Updater it fails with error code 80070539. Either it is a coincidence, or it is those same 15 updates it is trying to install at shutdown. Maybe the shut-down install fails and THAT'S why the machine turns off. Perhaps I don't need to know why it is quitting I need to know why the updates are failing. I never have to deal with this kind of hassle with Mac updates!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. W
