I'd like to know if anybody has a solution or has had the same problem with installing Parallels Tools under Ubuntu Tribe 3 edition? I install it it works all the way up til' i get to the screen in the terminal which asks if i want to install parallel tools and i answer "Yes". Then suddenly it automatically restarts to a constantly resizing window with a black screen that finally remains a window of one size, but the black screen stays. Any help would be most appreciated. Much gratitude in advance to anyone who helps!!

Press Ctrl-Alt-F1 and you'll get down to the login screen.

Still haven't managed to make it work, but I have managed to track it down to a problem with KDE once we have installed the parallel tools. Indeed, if you start X after installing the tools, you will see X windows works.

After installing the tools, if you start KDE, you will notice there is an error in the /var/log/kdm.log.

I'm guessing, you are encountering an error starting GDM in your case.

Thanks so much! Are you saying you still haven't been to get parallels tools to install completely on Tribe 3? Even with doing what you said? =D

Not yet found out what is wrong with my KDE after installing the tools. I know that removing the tools lets me go back to KDE as if nothing has happened, but I can't figure how the tools would cause such an issue.

You might need to use Ctrl-Alt-Fn-F1

Fn+F1 is one and the same. There is no separate function key other than the one and only F1-F16 keys on the mac. Thanks for the try though! =(
