I currently have Desktop 7 and am being prompted by Parallels to upgrade to 9 in order to upgrade to Mavericks. I click on the link provided to me and it takes me to a purchase for 10. I can't upgrade from 7 to 10, but I can from 7 to 9 - and Parallels is even the one providing a link to get an upgrade to 9 and it still doesn't take me to that option in the store. I have tried searching the web, and I've found downloads for 9, but no option to purchase the $49.99 upgrade. I even did install the download of 9 that I found, accepted it as a trial version, and when I went to purchase from the link in version9 it again took me to a purchase of 10. Very frustrated! I shouldn't have to purchase 10 if I am being told by the product itself that I can upgrade to 9. Please advise how to resolve this issue.
Hi, With the release of Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac, Parallels stopped selling Parallels Desktop 9. However, this version might still be offered by some authorized software resellers. If you buy one from an authorized reseller, you will get a no-charge upgrade key to version 10, according to the Tech Guarantee: http://www.parallels.com/techguarantee2014/
I also have Parallels 7. If I am to buy Parallels 10 (not upgrade) will it still be able to open my current Parallels 7 VM? Or do I have to start from scratch? Thank you.
Hi AdamDe, Yes of course you will be able to run your virtual machines after upgrading. But please consider to make a backup of the .pvm files (virtual machine files located on your Mac) before you upgrade. Basically, only one change will be applied to the virtual machine - Parallels Tools re-installation. So having a backup is really recommended. Another way to have a backup - create a snapshot before upgrading (Virtual machine -> Create a snapshot)
