Recently, I've come across the dreaded error of "prl_dsp_service".

Unable to connect to Parallels Service. Make sure that the prl_disp_service process is active and it is not blocked by Firewall. For details, please refer to http://kb.parallels.com/en/8089. If the problem persists, contact the Parallels support team for assistance.

I'm using Mavericks 10.9.4 and everything was in working order, I had no idea what I did as I didn't update or change anything... I think... :p

Upon researching these forums and the internet, nothing I did worked, nothing. Uninstalling, reinstalling, using terminal, disabling firewalls, disabling LittleSnitch, etc. But I finally managed to get passed this by using a third-party program, "CleanMyMac2". It's a great program and worth the cash, if you already have it installed, lucky you!

    Here's what I did:

    1. Uninstall Parallels 9, empty trash, restart.
    2. Reinstall P9.
(At this point I was still receiving the same errors)
    3. Open CleanMyMac2, click "Uninstaller" on the left, go to "Parallels Desktop".
    4. In the right window, click on "Application Reset" near the top.

4.5 - I also clicked on "prl_disp_service" under the 'Other' tab just in case, and removed anything to do with previous versions of PD

    5. Hit the Reset button at the bottom of the app.
    6. Restart computer
    7. Open P9, it should act as if you have never opened it before, accept all prompts.
    8. Enjoy!

Worked for me, perhaps it will work for you? For those of you who do not have CleanMyMac2, here are the files that it removed. Yes, there are 2 different 'Library' folders so pay attention:

    /Users/Username/Library/Caches/com.parallels.desktop.console
    /private/var/folders/nd/rx0jk7m15ds0snbd_rfh564m0000gn/C/com.apple.WebKit.WebContent+com.parallels.desktop.console
    /private/var/folders/nd/rx0jk7m15ds0snbd_rfh564m0000gn/C/com.parallels.desktop.console
    /Users/Username/Library/Preferences/Parallels
    /Users/Username/Library/Preferences/com.parallels.desktop.console.LSSharedFileList.plist
