When I click the Windows XP shortcut the screen becomes black, with a Parallels header and the following:
    640 KB Base Memory
    196608 KB Extended Memory
    Boot form hard drive...

    Then nothing happens.

    What's wrong?

Sorry for asking such a basic question, but have you installed Windows XP yet?

    Thank you

Somehow the automatic process did not installed Windows. Before I read your reply I decided to Uninstall Parallels and install it again and the second time around when it asked for the Windows CD, the installation was successful. So now my MacBook runs Windows :(

    once your VM is OK
get in the habit of cloning it to an external had disk once a week
(best after completing Windows and other updates)

learn P DT Menu >> Devices >> Shared Folders >> Add

and include the macintosh desk Top (via users)
    and each hard disk

always save your windows work in shared folders
it keeps the VM lean and mean and if you have a problem your work is safe

any Windows machine needs ante Virus / firewall / registry repair just the standard good house keepiong VM or PC

    enjoy
