    Hi,

I'm moving from Windows Vista and Office 2007 to Mac, but I need to continue to use Office on Windows (heavy Excel macro, Access database, and OneNote use). I'm planning to use Parallels to run Windows.

I'd like to upgrade from Vista to Windows 8.1 and from Office 2007 to Office 365. Would I be better off moving my current Windows machine to the Mac then upgrading, or would it be better to do a clean install of WIndoes 8.1 and office 365 on the Mac then bring over the files I need?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

    David

If all you need is your data and the new apps, then the latter is better.

    Hi David,

As you're running Windows Vista, you won't be able to keep your apps, Windows settings, or personal files when you install Windows 8.1. All of your apps will need to be re installed using the original installation discs, or purchase confirmation emails if you bought the apps online. Please refer the below links to upgrade instructions from Windows Vista to Windows 8.1 and for Update to Windows 8.1: FAQ.

Upgrade to Windows 8.1 from Windows Vista or Windows XP: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/upgrade-from-windows-vista-xp-tutorial
Update to Windows 8.1: FAQ: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8

So it would be better to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 and office 365 on the Mac using Parallels Desktop, then bring over the files you need.
