Activation key not accepted, German version

I bought the boxed German Version of Parallels 2.0. Now bought the boxed German version 3.0. After entering the key for Version 3.0 the key for 2.0 is requested but not accepted. Tried to contact the order support but they don't respond. Called support in the US, they told me they counldn't help me. I was supposed to call in Russia, they gave me an number which must be wrong becaus the mentioned areacode doesn't even exist.

So I tried to be an honest customer, but am punished by parallels.

They aren't even able to halde their activation keys. As soon as there is an alternative I tell a lote of people not to use this nice product. But a product by a company not able to sell versions that may be installed and used within five days now cannot be recommended.

    Does someone have any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Igor:mad:

You might try first installing v. 2.0. Once you've done that resize the virtual disk to be as large as you think you will want it using Image Tool .. or pick a largish size at installation .. since v. 3 does not now have a tool to increase disk size (one of those "it will be in an upcoming update" things).

Then upgrade to v. 3. If you already have v. 2 installed, the upgrade to v. 3 will ask only for the v. 3 key.

    Hi Phil,

2.0 has been on the machine before installing 3.0, but both keys are requested.

You should first uninstall version 2 and then installing 3.0

In the .dmg file off parallels 3.0 there is an uninstalleren, use it.

Bad advice .. unless he wants to lose and have to reinstall all his Windows OS and programs.

IF version 2 is still installed on the machine when upgrading to v. 3, only the v. 3 Key should be requested .. at least that's how it worked for me (US version).

I wonder if the v. 3 upgrade is not finding your installed v. 2 .hdd file for some reason? See if you can find winxp.hdd using Spotlight

always make backup of winxp.hdd, then there shouldn't be any problem.

If v. 3 upgrade is not finding it, it may be a tad hard to backup ;) .. but making a backup is *always* a good idea, and he should use Spotlight to find winxp.hdd.

None of this solves the basic problem: "Now bought the boxed German version 3.0. After entering the key for Version 3.0 the key for 2.0 is requested but not accepted."

Doing a new install after deleting v. 2 will ensure that his v. 2 key is needed -- not a good thing if that key is not being accepted.

If he can get v. 3 update to find the winxp.hdd already there from v. 2, the old key will not be needed .. at least that was true in my case (US version).
