First, apologize if this is a stupid question, I have not been able to find an answer to it. Background- I am a very new Mac users having switched to a MacBook Air last week. I wish to use Parallels for running MS Office. I have installed the transfer tools on my old Windows Vista machine which created a file called Windows 7.PVM. I believe this is the correct procedure for installing w/out a Windows install disc. The problem comes in with the size of the file. Parallels suggested I'd need something like 10G or something but this file is 250G and there is not enough room on this MacBook Air to install it. Am I doing something wrong? is there something I am missing? Any help would be appreciated.
Hello lmcurell, If you are installing a fresh copy of windows OS on your Parallels Desktop then the size of the .PVM would be around 6GB to 10GB. Since you are migrating your Windows PC the size of .PVM file will be the size of your Windows Hard Disk. That would have been the reason for why the size of .PVM file is showing you as 250GB. Also if you would not like to migrate all the files and application of your windows OS, you can create a new copy of Windows OS using a Windows DVD or using an .ISO image file( http://kb.parallels.com/4729 ) and then install MS Office application on your virtual Machine and copy the important files from your Windows PC to a USB stick or to an external Hard Drive and then paste it on to your newly created Virtual Machine so that the size of the .PVM file will be lesser than the size of the .PVM file of the migrated PC
Hi lmcurell, Glad that your has been resolved. Feel free to get back to us if you need any assistance.
