Hi I have a query and I hope someone has an answer, or even a possibility of Parallels development seeing this as an opportunity to make the product even better than it is. I have a W2K12 virtual machine that I use to test software installation of my code .. I have two branches of snapshot, one with MySQL and the other with SQL. This allows me to test either install type ... All ok until now. I also have the latest Parallels Tools installed in the base VM. When a Parallels update comes, why does it insist on installing an updated version of Parallels Tools into both snapshot branches? Why does it not install it into the base VM and then carry out some housekeeping in each snapshot branch? The problem becomes even more exasperating when I want to create a third snapshot branch from the base ... yet another PT install! I hope that there is some sort of solution for this, if not now then a future version. For simple users this is not an issue, but when you wish to put the system to some tough use it is a pain. br Jay
Hi JaySav, Parallels Desktop for Mac when updated to newer build, would require the update for Parallels Tools as well. When you boot from a snapshot created earlier, the version of Parallels Tools in the Virtual Machine would not be the updated version of Parallels Desktop running the Virtual Machine. I would suggest to create a snapshot after Parallels Tools has been updated in the Virtual Machine. You could use the new snapshots and remove the old ones. Thanks, Looran
Hello Looran I know that I can do this but I have a Windows 2008r2 base machine. Then I have four branches from this SQL 2008r2, SQL 2012, PostGres and MySQL. On each of these I am testing my software. When I update Parallels Desktop I have to install Parallels Tools on each of them. I cannot delete the snapshots and branches to install Parallels Tools on the base VM. This would mean hours of recreating the three development environments again. What should happen when you update the system, is that the Tools install should happen on the base VM and not on the branches. This is what it looks like: .............) >> SQL Server 2008r2 >> Additional SW >> Installation testing Base VM ) >> SQL Server 2012 >> Additional SW >> Installation testing W2K8r2 ) >> MySQL Server >> Additional SW >> Installation testing .............) >> PostGres SQL >> Additional SW >> Installation testing The >> indicates snapshots so I can go backward in steps if required. So you can see my problem ... Jay
Hi JaySav, If you are running a Snapshot on Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac build 9.0.24217, then the Parallels Tools in the VM should also have the tools for the same build. Installation of Parallels Tools is necessary for the Virtual Machine to have all capabilities. In this case, the only solution is to update Parallels Tools all the Snapshots and save them again. Thanks, Looran
