Earlier this week, my IMac crashed as a result of a power outage whilst it was re-booting. I had to re-format the hard drive and recover my software from Time Machine. Everything now works except Windows 8.1. All my Microsoft saved files are present but each time open Parallels 9 it keeps asking me whether I want to install a new virtual machine. Before I go through the painful process of re-installing Windows XP, then 8 via an upgrade disk is there anything that I am missing? For example, can I recover Windows from Time Machine or the Microsoft website? This is proving to be a real pain. Thanks for any help.
If the VM was Bootcamp based, formatting the disk might have deleted it. The VM is located in /Users/<username>/Documents/Parallels or /Users/Shared/Documents/Parallels, it has the extension .pvm. Double-click on it to re-register it with Parallels.
