Kaspersky just released version 14 of their Anti-Virus suite. So I installed it on my XP VM running under Parallels 7. (I tried P8, but it caused critical problems with QuicKeys and a whole lot of other interrelated issues.) It turns out that with Kaspersky 14 installed, XP always displays the desktop, and that desktop "window" messes with the display of windows which are in front of it. In short, I consider Kaspersky 14 unusable with this configuration. Is anyone using Kaspersky with P9? Do you experience any funky window problems? (Even the previous version of Kaspersky on my setup could not display the Kaspersky window unless it was in front of another Windows app's window.)
Hi EWTHeckman, Kaspersky 2014 is compatible with Windows XP and also when using it as a VM with Parallels Desktop for Mac. This version (KIS 2014) has not been bundled with Parallels Desktop 7 and 8 for Mac and might have blocked the installation of Parallels Tools in your VM. Make sure that Parallels processes are not blocked/ blacklisted under Kaspersky's preferences and reinstall Parallels Tools by following all steps at: http://kb.parallels.com/8969 Thanks, Looran
Hi Looran, Parallels Tools is installed in my setup. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it in the past with no errors. Everything works correctly with Kaspersky 2013 except for the window management. (See here for the thread where I attempted to get help for this in the past, complete with a screen shot.) I'm fully able to use Coherence, except for this issue. After installing Kaspersky 14, the problem is worse. If I exit Coherence, the desktop is displayed within a normal window exactly as it should be. But when I enter Coherence, the window goes away (as it should), but the Desktop is still drawn, just without a window frame. It's even active! (I can right click for properties, etc.) Sorry, I don't have a screen shot because I had to go to a backup so I can get work done.
Hello EWTHeckan, Kaspersky 2014 has not been optimized for Parallels Desktop yet and we suggest to use "native" anti viruses offered in Parallels Desktop security center: http://kb.parallels.com/118150 If you prefer to go for Kaspersky 2014, please make sure Parallels Tools isn't blocked in its preferences. Thanks, Maheeshwar
Two problems with that: 1) Uninstalling the Kaspersky from their web site (total uninstall) and installing the "native" version does NOT solve the problem with the window layering. Another window MUST STILL be open behind the Kaspersky window just for it to be visible at all. 2) When I enter my Kaspersky license (which is still good for more than a year), Kaspersky claims: "Activation code is not suitable for this application". This is MASSIVELY frustrating. Note, I just upgraded to Parallels 9 in an obviously doomed attempt to resolve this major problem.
Oh joy, oh joy. It just gets worse. I'm now running the "native" version of Kaspersky Internet Security under Parallels 9. It's the latest and greatest that's supposed to work together. But after closing the Kaspersky window, it left an orphaned window frame behind.
I have less than half the time remaining on the Kaspersky trial period. Do you have any solutions for this problem?
