Hi dear friends, If anyone seeing this and know how to solve the problem and recover data, it will be much appreicated. I have installed the Parallel 9 decktop on the Mac OS X 10.9 for a iMac machine today. After the installation completed, I created a windows VM and installed the windows VM from an image file. After I started the Windows VM first time , I found there are already some files on my windows decktop, then I thougt it's unuseful so I moved those file into "Recycle Bin" on the windows and clicked " empty the Recyble bin". But after that, unfortunately I found that those files on the windows VM's desktop that I just put into the Recycle bin and empty it actually are the files on the Mac decktop on the host machine. How could this happen ? I only delected some files on the windows VM, but the files actually on the host machine been delected. Do I have chance to recover the data ? If yes, how ? Is this a new function of Parallel 9 decktop ? It's totally difference from my knowledge about Virtual Machine and Host that I think it sould be isolated between VM and host. Thank you for any help you can provide. The data hasn't backup per the user said, so I felt very frastrated now. David.
You have the Shared Profile Desktop option enabled. In the VM configuration, go to Options -> Shared and click Configure under Shared Profile. Turn off the Desktop option. While there, see if you've merged the Windows Recycle Bin with the OS X trash. Unfortunately, it sounds like those files may be gone unless you have data recovery software. Steve
Hi David, The files were deleted as the 'Shared Profile' was turned on. To turn off the 'Shared Profile' follow the steps below; Go to Configure of VM ( http://kb.parallels.com/117287 ) > Options > Sharing > Uncheck 'Shared Profile' and 'Smart Mount'. Thanks, Manoj.
HI Steve, thanks. Can you please let me know what data recovery software you suggest to use ? I need run the data recovery software on the Mac machine ,not in the windows VM, am I right ? thanks again ! David.
I can't recommend any such software because I don't use it. I just always have an up-to-date Time Machine and Carbonite backup. Steve
