I have spent a lot of time trying to get this product to work, but I can not use the application I want because it thinks there is not DirectX installed. It appears that I can not enable hardware acceleration, so those thus no application! I see several questions back in 2007 and you did not support it then. Is it safe to assume you still do not support it directly or through emulation?
http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v9/ga/docs/en_US/Parallels Desktop User's Guide/33143.htm What Mac model are you using?
unable to enable hardware acceleration Hi I am experiencing the same problem. I have an iMac Late 2012 with 680M GTX graphics card. in Configure option Directx 9/10 is enabled and synch is turned on. But windows 7 in parallels desktop 9 still does not recognise its hardware accelerated. kind regards Trung
How do you determine that Windows 7 does not recognize it is hardware accelerated? I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, service pack 1, 4 GB memory, 2 CPUs, 1 GB video memory. Parallels Tools is installed. The virtual machine is using a Parallels Display Adapter (WDDM). Gaming graphics score of 7.7. I have a Mac Pro 2008, 32 GB ram, Mac OS X 10.9.2, NVIDIA 680 GTX, 2 GB vram.
Hi joevt, I am at work at the moment. I used the same method as above to determine that the Display Adaptor shown is - Standard VGA graphics Adaptor, I used dxdiag and it also said its a standard vga. I ran a game called world of tanks and it said this game requires 3d acceleration. I'll post a graphic when I get a chance at home. regards Trung Hi joevt, just a little update on what's happened. After posting the above reply I checked your spec and noticed Installing "Parallel tools". I teamviewed onto the iMac and noticed it wasn't installed. After installing Parallel tools, it now works. Cheers Trung
I am sorry I didn't get on sooner. I was not notified by the system of a reply until today. ?? Thankfully it looks like Trungv1 has followed up and helped out. Thanks! My machine is the new macbook pro retina display. It has the integrated Intel video and an Nvidia card as well. I guess now after following the above thread.. is where do I get Parallel tools, and how do I install? I clearly missed something as well as others. Thanks in advance. I'm down to 7 days to try this product before it expires, and I've not been able to use it yet at all.
Thank you !!! Now I shot myself in the foot. I didn't know how to get to that command to install without making windows "not full screen". I changed that setting and it came up with a notice to use Control, Command F to exit full screen mode. I did that, installed my "tools" and in fact now 3D is working. However... I'll be derned if I can get it back to full screen mode. The above command does not take it back to full screen mode. I have gone into the setting and told it to start in full screen mode. I've even rebooted the system, but it is still in a "windowed" mode. Soooo close. Later: got it working. I at least got it to do what it says it can do. However the FPS is all over the place. From 5-105fps and it makes it unplayable like that. Is there any tricks to make it a little more steady? I have tried different resolutions and lowered graphics, but it is pretty jerky.
Get gfxCardStatus at http://gfx.io With that, you'll always know what mode you're in (discrete (NVIDIA) or integrated (Intel) graphics). It also tells you which apps are causing the graphics to use discreet mode. You can also use it to force either mode. Check the Virtual Machine -> Configure... -> Options -> Optimization settings. Those may help, but I haven't tried gaming on my virtual machines. You might also want to tune the CPU and memory settings in Virtual Machine -> Configure... -> General. In each of the settings windows, press the (?) button to get more information.
Thanks, that is what I have been using. I have been using PlayonMac and it was needed to force it to Intel, since for some reason the Nvidia drivers don't play nicely. Another must is smcFancontrol so the laptop does not heat up. Those video cards work VERY hard and I think it could do damage without intervention. Why Mac doesn't do a better job of fan control is beyond me. But thanks for the tip. I will tinker some more and report back. I just noticed an error on WOT that complains there is not enough memory. This could be part of, or all of the problem. I poked around and can't figure out how to increase the memory allocation to the program. Even though Nvidia has 2GB of ram, the most I can allocate is 1gb. The Intel only has 1gb, so perhaps that is the reason? I had already poked around in that optimization settings, but so far nothing looks like it allows the increase in memory. I have tried both Nvidia and Intel and the drivers seem about the same. Intel runs cooler, but there is this horrible pregnant pause when I play the game making it pretty much a non starter. I'm not giving up yet. I have 6 more days to work through it.
Did it say there was not enough memory (RAM), or video memory (VRAM)? What OS are you using? Windows 7 64 bit? How much RAM is allocated to the virtual machine (in the general settings)? How much RAM does your Mac Book Pro have? If you have 8 GB for your Mac, then you should allocate at least 4GB for the virtual machine. Parallels only allows up to 1 GB of VRAM allocated to the virtual machine. Remember that it wasn't too long ago when 1 GB was the most you could buy for a Mac Pro gaming card (AMD Radeon HD 5870 1GB Mac Edition). It should be enough for most needs. WOT = World of Tanks. I haven't tried that game. The requirements are listed at http://worldoftanks.com/en/content/guide/general/system-requirements/ It says 256 MB of graphics RAM is minimum and 1GB of graphics RAM is recommended.
It didn't say, just not enough memory. I am using Windows 7 64 bit DOH! I was talking to a fellow employee about it and he uses the product. He told me how to find these settings, and it had only 1gb allocated. I bumped that to 4. It also defaults to 1 processor!!! I bumped that to 8. It has been running extremely hot and draws massive amounts of power. I had 100% battery and when I was done, it was down to 90%, and the power supply was almost too hot to touch! I have not had a chance to try again, now that I've allocated more ram and processor power to it. I'm guessing I was just flogging one processor to death. I will report back. Hotel link is terrible this morning so can not test. ' I don't recall what it has, but it is either 16 or 32gb. Uses the I7 processor with a 500gb solid state drive. It should have enough horse power to do what I need for the foreseeable future. Thanks for all your help. I am gaining ground now. I'm hopeful that pregnant lag will be solved with the latest setting changes.
