I have a 2011 MBA using Windows 7 with Parallels 7. I use Office 2011 for Mac for all Office programs other than Outlook. I still use Windows Outlook 2010 since I can't get my calendars and contacts to sync properly between Outlook 2011 for Mac and my iPhone. (A problem for another day).

Even though I'm using Outlook 2010, I want to be able to open the Outlook attachments with the Office for Mac applications. Some files work, such as Excel and Powerpoint, but Word .docx files only open with the Windows Word program. However, the Word .doc files open with Word for Mac. When I try to change the default program association for the .docx file type in Control Panel, I can't find Word for Mac, even though it is already set as the default program for .doc file types.

I also want to open .pdf files with Adobe Reader for Mac, but I have the same problem. I can't find the Adobe Reader for Mac app when I try to change the default program association for .pdf files in Control Panel, even though it is listed as the default program for other file types.

I have configured Parallels to both "Share Windows Applications with Mac", and "Share Mac Applications with Windows".

Any help with changing these settings would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Barry

No. I gave up Office 2011 and went back to Windows Office 2010 for all applications.

go to your windows VM start menu, go to parallels tools, uninstall it (you have to do this)
    then reboot your VM
then go to Virtual machine at the top, then reinstall parallel tools.
your VM will reboot now after it completes.
then when you go to the VM, you can select all the mac programs to open with all different types of files. reinstalling Parallels tools on top of itself wont fix the issue, you have to uninstall it first and then reinstall and it will work perfect.
