I upgraded to Parallels Desktop 9 in November, because of repeated dire warnings at parallels boot and emails
that said I had to. It worked, despite the horrible UI 'feature' that it
hid the Windows XP task bar under the Mac shelf and fullscreen Windows windows were under the mac top tab. I upgraded
to OSX Mavericks this week. Since then Parallels will not start. It pops up a window declaring Problem ID 15431
with a broken link to a solution at this site. The destination to the proposed solution does not exist.
I would reinstall Parallels 9 from disk, but it was a download. The purchase email says the download link is good until Dec. 28. (it's expired)
As I wrote this, I tried finding the downloaded disk image (.dmg) and it was still in the Download directory.
I figured I still have the install key and I could install again. It was smart enough to check for a previous
install and said there was an upgrade available.
That worked! I am unsure what I would have done if the dmg was gone. I can't find an obvious
"download now!" or better yet "upgrade now!" link, and I couldn't get my
current install to boot far enough to have it check for upgrades.
I will leave this note here in case someone else is having the same problem. Apple recently
handed out free upgrades of OSX to Mavericks, so I suspect I am not the only one
who decided this was a good time to upgrade OSX
