Hey all I'm running the latest version of Parallels 9 with latest version of Mavericks and Windows on the new 2013 15" Macbook Pro Retina and once I begin using any app, such as typing on Word 2013 the CPU usage hits 100% within 5 seconds. Already tried doing a reinstall of Parallels, but that did not solve the issue. Just to be clear, which ever process I am running, it is that task that has very high cpu and memory usage. Just wondering if anyone else also has this problem and if there's anything i can do to fix it. It's very annoying to have 4 cores, 8gb of ram and not be able to do simple word processing tasks on windows. Thanks in advance for any feedback
I exactly have the same problem as you. Even when the VM is idle, CPU usage is over 100%. I have requested the support and the engineer was not able to solve the problem. He said it will be escalated to 2nd level engineers. Thare is no contact since that they, though. What I have personally found out is when you look at the task manager you might see some services that particularly use high proportion of cpu. In my case, that was local service host ... something which is releated to p2p services. I turned off that service, and it made the cpu usage level about 80%. There was one more service, "werfault.exe". What this services does is when you have problems in windows system it reports the problems to the Microsoft. So I decided to turn it off as well, but right after I turned off werfault.exe, rundll32.exe error popped up. Turning off the werfault.exe made my cpu usage near 0% when idle, but because of rundll32.exe popping up every seconds, I was forced to turn it on again. I have also googled the "werfault.exe" error, and found out the cause of this error is most likely related to the drivers, which indicates that there is something wrong with the PARALLELS TOOLS. Funny thing is it only happens in Windows 8.1. I tried Win 8 and Win 7, no high cpu usage was not detected. Since there is lack of support from parallels team, I strongly encourage you downgrade your windows 8.1 to windows 8. I believe downgrade the OS will definitely solve your problem. It's quite funny that only some people have this high cpu usage thing happen, I don't expect the parallels support team would catch this problem and fix it in any soon. Huge disappointment this time to parallels. Will definitely change my VM to fusion next year
I have this problem too...hopefully if we have enough people complaining, Parallels will fix the problem
same problem 100% CPU Usage on Mavericks and Windows 8.1 Parallels 9 on both of my macbook pro 15" and macbook pro 13"... it seemed to started with recently installed updates... kills my battery in no time! Parallels we need ur attention asap!!!
Hi DanielB108, Please follow the steps as suggested at http://kb.parallels.com/112764 which may help you in resolving the issue.
the issue is not that mac activity monitor reporting different stats from windows task manager.... the issue is that once i start windows vm, very quickly vm process in activity monitor shows me prl_vm_app nearly taking 80% + of cpu and my macbok cpu fan is going wild... again this happens on both of my laptops after some sort of recent update. i cannot keep my vm running for any extended amount of time because it drains my battery in no time
