    Hi there:

I am brand new to Parallels and just installed it, as well as Windows 7. However, the only reason I need Parallels to run Windows is to use 1 application I have to have.

When I insert the installation DVD-ROM for this program, there is no AutoPlay dialog that launches (as it says in the Parallels manual). The instructions for the software say that if the installer doesn't automatically begin, you can choose Start and Run and then setup.exe. There is no Start or Run that I see in Windows "Start" menu, but if I look at the DVD and open its folders I can see the setup.exe in there. If I try to run as admin or launch it, a window opens asking if I want to let this make changes to the computer. If I choose "Yes" nothing happens.

I have tried to change the "AutoPlay" in the Windows Control Panel to have Software and Games to either "Install and run Program" or I tried "Ask me every time" - either way, when I insert the disc, it does not ask me anything - which is leading me to believe that Windows is somehow not recognizing when disc is inserted (even though I can see the DVD in the Windows' "W:" Drive) and I see the folders and the SetUp .exe

I have tried this now several times. This is a good installation CD and only a year old.

Please PLEASE can someone help direct me? I have to have this application in order to get rid of my PC once and for all.

    Thank you so much!

Just an update to help anyone else - I was finally able to do this not with the CD, but by going to the website of the 3rd party application (in this case, Quickbooks) and downloading the software FROM WITHIN WINDOWS INTERNET EXPLORER. This allowed the download to remain inside Windows rather than being on my Mac.

Once I had this I was able to install.

Still not sure how to tell our Mac and Windows systems which one we want to use for an inserted disc. Now my mac thinks everything I put in a USB port is for Windows…. I'm sure there's a simple thing to change this…

    Thanks

You can choose what is available to Windows by clicking the Parallels icon in the menu bar, or right clicking the dock icon, and selecting Devices.
