I can find no information on how to configure my scenario so it may not be possible but it should be I wish for the guest OS to have exclusive use of the Ethernet Interface and for the Host OS to use the Wireless interface is there any way to configure a pass through of a physical hardware device to the guest OS removing access to that device from the host OS while the VM is running? I wish to run an isolated Windows 7 environment and give it sole access to the Ethernet interface for connection to a corporate domain while the OSX has access to a guest WiFi for personal use. Any ideas anyone?
Update Hi so I have found a number of posts where people are trying, unsuccessfully it seems, to use bridged ethernet through to the VM and WiFi set as default network for the Host OS (Lion in my case) I have not figured out how to make sure the WiFi is default other than to change the order of the connections in locations on OS X (is this what is meant? I have also tried to bridge Ethernet but this will not work. If I bridge vnic 0 then the VM will connect to the domain but only if I have my WiFi switched off only haveing one network at a time really defeats the object of virtualising the corporate machine to some extent any help appreciated Regards Hill
Hi, Did you find a solution? I'm facing a exact same scenario. I'm behind a corporate firewall which have ports for iCloud and a lot of Google services closed. I can only access these when I'm on the company Guest wifi. But with this, I'm unable to connect to the company domain/shares. I'm running Mavericks on a Retina MBP with a trial Parallels 9 and Win 7 Pro. I don't know if buying a thunderbolt to ethernet (for the guest Win 7 VM) will work in my case. Any ideas? Thanks, Habeeb
I have this working, but you will need a separate hardware connection, ie the ethernet adapter you mention. In your Mac OS network preferences, create a location with the wifi listed above the ethernet. On the Mac side, connect to your company's guest wifi as usual. With ethernet plugged in, make sure your ethernet connection gets an internal IP address. In the Network Hardware configuration for the VM, set the connection type to Shared or Bridged to the ethernet. With Bridged, you won't be able to access external Internet stuff through the VM, but they should still be accessible through wifi on the Mac side. If Shared works, as it does for me, both the host and VM have access to the Internet, but only the VM can access internal company stuff. But you absolutely need a second hardware network connection.
