I apologise as I'm sure this question crops up a thousand times, but none of the answers are helping to solve this problem. I'm sure the answers are good but my level of understanding is zilch - hey, I can't even think of a user name.

I bought my first Mac a month ago and Parallels9/Windows worked after the guy on the help desk took over and fiddled about for twenty minutes or so. For one reason or another, that Mac went back to the Apple shop for replacement. I guess the model of the new Mac is Pro with retina display - and a heap of storage capacity etc.

Okay - so now I reload the Parallels windows image file - and voila - I can't get it to connect to the internet or see any of the Mac drives. Obviously I'm outside that 14 day support so that guy isn't around to fiddle with my settings.

So I've loaded windows 7 from the original installation disk and easily managed to have that up and running with access everywhere.

I have compared the settings of both installations and the only difference I can find is the Mac Address on the "Hardware" page .... so I'm assuming this needs to be the same ... if so, how do I change it? Or have I done it all wrong?

    Your assumption is incorrect.

Most likely you need to (re)install Parallels Tools, also check the network troubleshoot article in my signature.
