    Hello,

After upgrading to OS 10.9 my old Parallels Desktop does no longer work.
I was just using an evaluation copy of Parallels Desktop 9 to compare with the new Fusion 6 (which is not yet on the Mac) when it happened:
Running Windows7 worked fine until I went to the settings and created a new shortcut to access the @ easier.
After that my Mac just could write upper case letters and the mouse behaved like the shift button was pressed continuously.
So I restarted the Mac as a first error fixing action. Now I can no longer login int MacOS !! No access to my own machine.
The shift key seems to be continuously pressed.

What can I do to get my Mac back?

    Some observations:

    * The post title is misleading, this was not the result of Parallels Desktop, very unlikely.

    * Pressing the shift key while booting take you to single-user mode, which is just a command prompt, in that case you won't be able to ever get to boot to your user account.

    * Please do not follow the 'reset password' article, there's no need for that and might cause some other headaches (saved passwords in the keychain will be lost).

    * Either PRAM reset to solve it or it's just a stuck key.

    Problem fixed

I finally fixed it following the recommendations of both. Thanks a lot. I have my Mac back. However, I do not find it so unlikely that Parallels brought me there, because I changed some keys in Parallel's keyboard layout and then had problems with the keyboard because it was just giving upper case letters. Is this connection really "very unlikely?" but it is fixed and this is what counts. Next to some strange behavior of the clipboard Parallels did very well and Fusion has a very hard challenge now to make me change...

    Hi

I am also having serious problems with P9 on Mavericks.
Files are taking an age - like 15 minutes just to open!
Never had this problem on P9 on Mountain Lion or previous versions.
Really affecting productivity. Any suggestions much appreciated

Yes, it is very unlikely, "correlation does not imply causation".
Parallels would have to somehow change your PRAM for this to occur, as we are talking about a pre-booting OS X problem where Parallels isn't even loaded yet. It is unlikely because PDM wouldn't try to do that, it hás no need.
