Hi, I'm trying to get Windows 98SE working on Parallels 8, but can't seem to find out how to install the Parallels drivers. Windows 98SE installs OK, but there is no mouse pointer integration, no shared files or shared clipboard and seemingly no USB support. I was able to find the prl-tools-other.iso file in /Applications/Parallels Desktop/Contents/Resources/Tools/ and install the video drivers, but it looks like there are only mouse drivers for OS/2, and I can't seem to find anything that would let me share files with the Win98 guest. I've checked the knowledge base and I can only find references to older versions of Parallels and not Parallels 8. Is there a way to do this or is Parallels 8 just not compatible with Windows 98? In case anyone's wondering, I need to use Windows 98 to set up an old Point of Sale program that is not compatible with Windows 2000/XP. Is it best to switch to VMWare Fusion for this? Thanks for your help! Michael
Hi Michael, I found the user manual for parallels 8 here:http://www.parallels.com/fileadmin/...port/pd8fm/Parallels_Desktop_User_s_Guide.pdf On page 155 of the pdf it states what OS's parallels tools will work with - and Windows 98 is not on the list. Have you considered upgrading your POS software instead? Sorry - but there comes a time when you have to move forward lol. /endofunwantedcomment.
Page 119 of the manual says that Windows 98SE is a supported OS. We've already migrated away from the POS platform, we just need to access some old data from our backups but no longer have any compatible hardware that the program will run on, that's why we want to set up a virtual machine.
