I have been using Parallels 9 on my Macbook Pro with Retina Display to run Windows 8 for over a month now with no problems. This morning I went through the Microsoft procedure for updating Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. The procedure went without any problems and Windows 8.1 works fine when I access it via Boot Camp. However, when I run my Macbook Pro under OS X and try to access Windows 8.1 via parallels 9, I get the error messages that no boot file has been received and that no boot device is present. I have Boot Camp properly installed on an NTFS partition on my SSD, and it works perfectly when I boot directly into Windows 8.1. I don't know how to get parallels 9 working with Windows 8.1. I have all the latest versions of Parallels 9, Boot Camp, Windows 8.1, etc. Can anyone offer any suggestions for getting Parallels 9 to run Windows 8.1?

Thank you in advance for responding.

I filed a ticket this morning with Parallels Support on this problem. I have just received a replay that Parallels does not support Windows 8.1 because Windows 8.1 is in the BETA (their caps) stage. I replied that Windows 8.1 was not in the BETA stage and could be downloaded as an official release from Microsoft at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/buy?ocid=WIN81GA_SEM_GGL_BRAND_OS_BUY&semid=1&WT.Search=1. Apparently it is news to Parallels Support that their own product (latest version of Parallels 9) does not work with the latest release of Windows (8.1). Amazing!

    Hanna,

Thank you so much for responding. I went to the link provided and the first of the two solutions, i.e. repairing my SSD at the highest level, solved my problems with being unable to access Windows 8.1 from within Parallels 9. All is working perfectly now in terms of Windows 8.1 and Parallels 9. Again, thank you for your help.

Same here it worked for me after REPAIRING the top level hard drive. I noticed that after repairing one of the lines in Disk Utility was

Updating Windows boot.ini files as required.

    Thanks for the help!
