I am in a corporate situation where I purchased numerous copies of PDT8. These were handed out to the user who needed them for thier MBP, and off they went with the boxes still sealed. Along comes v9 and I decide to purchase the upgrade. I then get an email from the supplier saying I need to supply all the activation keys. WHAT? Say it isn't so. Why on earth would I send all my activation keys to my supplier to buy an upgrade to a product I already own?? If I purchase the upgrade and go to install it, I would assume that if it DID NOT find a qualifing product the installation would simply fail. I have now been going back and forth with Parallels Support, the supplier Insight trying to verify this wierd request. Even worse, when each user took their respective copy, the box still sealed, I did not record any Activation Keys, which are of course....INSIDE the sealed box. Now a couple users are out of the country, cannot be reached and so I cannot purchase these upgrades. This just sounds wrong...I wanted others to chime in here. Why would I send our Company's activation keys, to a sales agent whom I have never met, with a company that is across the country. In my 20 years in this Biz, I have NEVER had to send anyone any friggin activation keys that I own and belong to MY Company. Purchase Order has been cut and sent to the supplier awaiting this resolution. Two weeks I have been going around in circles and still up against a wall and no closer to making the purchase because I am unable to supply these keys until the peeps return to the office. Even then I will have to get each of them to search out the key and relay it to me. Why did I not buy a Volume License you say? Because I needed only 6 copies, and Volume's where in pacs of 5 or 10 from what I recall. In hindsight, I should have bit the bullet and got 10. Now I am trying to see if the 6 I have, with a 7th copy in the works, can be converted to Volume?? No e-mail back to me on that yet. Any others get supprised by this odd upgrade scenario?? Talk about a lot of time wasted. Cheers
Hi all. Update to this post after days of sorting this out. Bottom Line: caveat emptor This, without a doubt, has been the most difficult upgrade I have ever had the dis-pleasure of doing. Originally purchased 6 PDT8 Lic for MBP (these were box licenses) as they are referred to from my supplier Insight Canada. As noted above, trying to purchase the v9 upgrade, all my activation keys were required to be sent to supplier. Really? Very scary...... Had a fight with supplier regarding this request, I lost ……sort of! Asked about upgrade these BOX versions to a Volume Lic. Parallels said I CANNOT, and it CANNOT BE DONE Insight Canada say YES I CAN, and gave me a price. That’s clear as mud! Go to purchase the upgrade based on Volume Lic scheme. I get an email with a Parallels Bundle Offer. https://buy.parallels.com/329/purl-...mail&utm_campaign=pd9alert&recommendation=cmm I inquire if we can get the bundle while we are doing this upgrade. Great timing. Once again…No Joy. Why? Supplier says this is not offered by Parallels but some other agency/company? So I send them the link. Yup…it is a Parallels site that is making the offer. Hmmmm Still unable to purchase through supplier. Why? Because they are not offering it…period! They will offer a 30day trial for Parallels Access for iPad. That’s a ways off from a 6mo full subscription. (and the rep from parallels thought this was a very generous offer) Copy of CleamMyMac, also NOT offered either, as it is not a Parallels product. Wow. So the Supplier is NOT honoring this Bundle. Any confusion anywhere…..anyone?? So, I say to supplier, forget it, cancel the P/O. I purchase all 6 copies online, and I get the BUNDLE as per the email. I DO NOT need to send my Activation Keys to anyone. Bonus! However, I still have Box Licenses and am still foo barred as far as getting a Volume Lic. Maybe work on that again when the next upgrade comes along. Then again….NOT! But at least I finally managed to get the update, and it only took a mere 18 days! Summary: So what is the point of going through a Supplier when it becomes evident they cannot offer, the same incentives and/or bundles as a copy purchased via Online can do?? Purchase everything Online, as Suppliers (it seems) are not privy to all the promos and bundles that get offered through email. (Not sure of the purpose of Suppliers are if they cannot offer the same bundles/specials etc. as an online purchase) Perhaps only for the Purchase of Volume or Enterprise Licenses, but I bet you’ll be hard pressed to get in any of the Bundles offered. Conflicting answers from Parallels and Insight Canada. Not sure why that is not more transparent. This was by far, the most convoluted, confusing, embarrassing (the supplier apologizing to me) not to mention time consuming upgrade I have encountered. I trust this might be imformative for any others who may have encountered something similar. Howard
