I need to install Parallels Desktop on my Mac. I have the CD for Parallels Desktop 5. When I try to install from the CD, it looks for an update and downloads that. When I try to run that, I get the message

Parallels Desktop can be installed only on Mac OS X Leopard (version 10.5.2 or higher) or Mac OS X Tiger (version 10.4.11 or higher).

My MacBook Pro is running 10.8. What can I do?

Another question: If I could get Parallels Desktop installed, can I then install Windows 7 Professional?

"Parallels Desktop can be installed only on Mac OS X Leopard (version 10.5.2 or higher) or Mac OS X Tiger (version 10.4.11 or higher)."

This is the reason why you can't install, PDM5 is NOT compatible with 10.8, and in case you are wondering "but it says
version 10.5.2 or higher", it's referring specifically to OS X Leopard which means: version 10.5.2 or higher BUT lesser than 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

Only versions above PDM7 are compatible.
