Okay so I had a macbook air with 10.8 and parallels 7. I went to parallels 8 with 10.8. I used time machine to backup and restore everything. I selected the .pvm and had to run the sudo command to uninstall 7. It would not open the VM since it recognized the old install. Great everything worked and I found all the files I had been looking for.

    SMALL PROBLEM:
I have shortcuts (it seems its only the shortcuts that are doing this) on my windows desktop that go to specific folders. EX: "\\psf\Home\Box Documents\New Folder - Monthly"
I also have a GoToMeeting shortcut that does the same thing. I have folders that open up fine on my desktop.

When I click this folder in desktop mode in windows it opens.
When I click it on the mac side both on desktop and coherence, it tells me:
The "Windows Explorer" application cannot be started.
The application is installed in a virtual machine that cannot be located. Make sure that the virtual machine hasn't been deleted or moved to another location.

Please tell me there is a fix for this.

    Thanks in advance!

This sounds like a lot of hassle, and I am contemplating a similar procedure. I wonder if one could circumvent the problem you are having by just getting a new copy of Parallels 8? But if you do that, my question is whether the Windows OS and programs would migrate. Any thoughts?

    Hello,

Seems like you need to change the association on the Mac side - right-click on the shortcut->choose Get Info -> in the Open With section change the app to the Windows Explorer from the current virtual machine (should be found in /Users/<your_home_folder>/'Applications (Parallels)' folder)
