I have just received my Parallels desktop 8 for mac which installed OK, but when I try and install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit it won't install in english. I even tried to install windows vista with same results. Can any one help? I am a total beginner with the iMac
What language is it installing in? You should have the option right at the beginning of the install for the language. Are you sure you are using an English copy of Win 7? Steve
I installed Windows 7 a month or two ago and it went fine. Are you sure you got an En_US copy of Windows 7?
I think it's German but not sure. The version is dell windows 7 pro OEM it does say English on label. Could it be because its an OEM ?
Disclaimer: I'm not an expert on this, but I know a couple things about Windows in this case. I installed a full version downloaded from Microsoft, and then installed the key bought from newegg.com. An OEM version probably won't install in a VM because it's limited to specific hardware from that vendor, usually in groups of 20 or 50 systems per OEM CD, and the inside of a VM is not going to match. I posted here because I heard that Microsoft released some cheap versions of Windows for low-income countries where nobody can afford the American license fee, and the way they protected themselves is by blocking out English as a language choice. Meaning, not only is it not included but they've taken measures to ensure that it can't be installed. If you have one of these versions, then that's probably the problem.
You really want the full version anyway. OEM versions have been heavily tampered with and half the stuff they put in it seems to have no purpose other than to pop up an ad and/or slow your system down. A full unrestricted installation directly from Microsoft is as clean and light weight as that particular OS can get.
