I purchased Parallels Mac 7 full as part of the StackSocial bundle in July 2012. I didn't upgrade to Mountain Lion until recently, and had been running V6 until then. The sale indicated it was "Guaranteed to include the next version" and to "be compatible with Mountain Lion/Windows 8" - I went to obtain my v8 upgrade, and it seems that Parallels set a time limit of November, 2012 for obtaining that upgrade they promised.

Nothing was stated about this at the time of sale, and no email went out indicating a time limit was approaching. Of course after an hour and half on support chat, I got an offer for 10% off the upgrade price. Gee, thanks. $4.

One would think that Parallels and/or their reseller knows what email address each key was issued to, and send out a notice indicating a timeframe and / or when that timeframe is approaching to redeem the upgrade.

Failing that, I would expect something other than a 10% off $40 offer, and repeated "are you ready to purchase?" questions.

Now I own licenses down to V4 or so, and used to buy for my previous employer V2 and V3 (If I recall) licenses. Is this really how Parallels operates? I know your major competitor from my bigger enterprise projects, and I know THEY wouldn't be jacking me around like this.

Does Parallels know or understand the terms "brand loyalty" or "good faith" at all? If this was disclosed at purchase, I'd happily say "yes, I'm a numbskull, here's your $40.". That isn't the case here.

    Hi SeanP55,

Thank you for sending this our way to investigate. Can you please forward over a copy of your confirmation email to social(at)parallels.com. The Parallels Tech Guarantee page (http://www.parallels.com/techguarantee2012) clearly stated that all requests for submission were required by November 15, 2012.

Please keep in mind, you purchased your copy of Parallels Desktop 7 through an authorized re-seller. You product was not registered with Parallels at time of purchase and technically you were not a Parallels customer until the software is activated and registered in our system and you provide us with your personal information, including email. We would not have any access to your purchase from a 3rd party re-seller, as protection of your privacy and personal information.

Please send me over the emails you received from StackSocial as a confirmation. The online content for the promotion did reference the Parallels Tech Guarantee 2012 at the time of the sale when referencing the upgrade to Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac.

I look forward to working with you on a resolution.

    Chris

This thread as well as the links above represent the basis for my opinion. These kinds of sales gimmicks are annoying, and it's silly to deny someone an upgrade because they missed a time window.

I am a customer who upgraded to Snow Leopard and now my working software (Parallels 6) does not work. I was disappointed to find that your company's response is consistently "You have to pay $50 to upgrade."

    Hi SteveMiller,

Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac is compatible with Snow Leopard so you should not be having any issues. The thread you referenced is for upgrades to Mountain Lion, the latest Apple OS. Parallels also stated in this thread the reasons behind the upgrade policy, which is why we had Tech Guarantee for customers who upgraded in the specified time period. As with the majority of software products, new updates and new technologies require new builds and upgrades of software to support these significant changes. Parallels Desktop 6 was 2 years old in the release schedule when Mountain Lion was launched, and as stated, it was not possible to back-port 6 to work effectively with Mountain Lion.

If you are having an issue with your Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac with Snow Leopard, you can still submit an email support request on our website as it is still supported for general questions. If you have upgraded to Mountain Lion and are running Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac, there is a required upgrade your Parallels software.

    Chris

I'm sorry, I meant to say Mountain Lion.

A patch would be appropriate, but as we all know, that's not going to happen.
