Is it necessary to use an antivirus programme such as Norton Internet Security on Windows/parallels on a Mac ?

From what I hear, yes (unless you keep Windows safely separated from the internet as well as the Mac OS). I've even been told it's best to install antivirus on both the Mac and Windows sides. Advice on this anyone? I hate Symantec/Norton but that's what I get free from my employer. Still figuring out what to do on this.

Using Kaspersky both on Mac and Windows - it's better to be safe in our cyber century

    Hi

I just wanted to ask a similar question: I'm running Intego Netbarrier & Virus barrier on my Mac. The former provides a firewall and internet security and the latter detects and protects against PC/Windows viruses as well as those (if there are any) on Macs.

Would you still recommend getting other / different antivirus software for the Windows side while I'm running Parallels 8? (I'm running in "like a mac" mode, if that makes any difference).

Thanks - and sorry if this is basically a repeat of the question above.

    Dan.

Yes, you should install an AV on the Windows side, for instance, Mac firewalls and AVs will not catch viruses transmitted over SSL/encrypted connections made in Windows.
