Hello, I am having so many serious problems with Parallels 8 that I think I need to revert to Parallels 7. Can someone tell me how to do that? For the record, here are my showstoppers: (I normally work in XP. It's running in coherence mode almost all the time.) 1. If I try to launch Windows 7 into coherence mode, it always crashes on startup. I have to launch it in Window mode, then switch to Coherence. 2. When Windows 7 and XP are both running in coherence mode, I cannot switch to XP using the menu bar menu. 3. Parallels 8 disables SpellCatcher whenever a Windows application becomes active. 4. QuicKeys (Mac) can no longer recognize when "Parallels" is the frontmost application. Universal keystrokes have to be disabled on a (Windows) application by application basis. 5. QuicKeys cannot recognize when any windows application is moved to the background. 6. P8 does not fix the problem of Kaspersky windows only being visible if another Windows application's window is open under the Kaspersky window. I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8 on a Mac Pro with a Xeon 6-core processor.
It turned out to be really easy to downgrade. I just followed these steps: 1) Uninstall Parallels Tools from each of the VMs using Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs (XP) or Control Panel -> Programs and Features (Win 7). 2) Quit Parallels Desktop. 3) Toss Parallels 8 in the trash. 4) Reinstall Parallels 7. 5) Launch each VM and install Parallels Tools. Now I'm back in Parallels 7 and running fine without the hassles added by P8.
Has anyone else experienced the issues I described in my initial post? Have any of them been resolved by subsequent updates? Thanks.
Hi, unfortunately we have no local reproduction for such issues. Would be nice to get some data from your host if you're going to install PD8 back. Regards, Hanna
I can't get Coherence to work at all in PD8. Saw another thread where others had same problem and were going to VMware Fusion 4 and run under Unity, their version of Coherence. Trouble is, I just installed trail of VMware Fusion 5 and Unity doesn't work there either! I'm guessing that there is a big problem with OS X Mountain Lion. Both of the latest products from Parallels and VMware are described as "Optimized for Mountain Lion." Apple may be at fault here.
Hello, I was checking back in here to see if there have been any updates on my list. Some searching showed that the cause of #3 (Spell Catcher) turned out to be a new feature to synchronize keyboard layouts, which can be turned off. I haven't been able to figure out if PD 8 has been updated since my last attempt. More details on #6 (Kaspersky) which affects both PD7 and PD8 can be seen here.
Hi Ed, I jumped for joy when I read your post about solving the issue with Spell Catcher - however, I can't for the life of me find the place where I can turn off keyboard synchronization. Can you please let me know. Thanks.
Thanks - they sure buried that one! I hope Parallels are treating this as a bug, or at the very least making the ability to set that option more intuitive.
